About Us

Boycott Farm is steeped in history. Over 300 years old it has belonged to our family, the Hilsdons, for 3 generations and has a great family farming heritage. After purchasing it from the Stowe Estate in 1922 we turned the 185 acres into a mixed farm which we have tended and nurtured since. From 1975 to 2003 we had a successful dairy herd of pedigree Holsteins but found that changes in the dairy industry meant we had to diversify. In 2008 we opened our Farm Shop and The Hayloft Restaurant and Tearoom which specialises in home produced and home cooked foods.

We rear suckler cows, who are all served by one lucky Aberdeen Angus bull; Gloucester Old Spot pigs, who have their own purpose-built home; and a free-range chicken unit of 6,000 hens who lay fresh eggs for us daily. You might even see alpacas on the farm.

We grow wheat for seed and cattle feed. The straw is then used in our livery yard which has stabling for 20 horses with dedicated paddocks and a floodlit ménage. Maize and grass are grown for silage which feeds the cattle in winter.

Our philosophy is based on good farming principles with care for the environment and we farm extensively using the minimum of fertilizers. We have entered into a Countryside Stewardship Scheme whereby we tend hedges and trees to encourage wildlife and increase the bird population.

We are passionate about farming and fresh, local food so throughout the year we hold open days which give you a chance to understand a bit more about farming and where your food comes from. We also have tasting events where you can sample our products for yourselves. Please see the events calendar for details.
